those of you close to me know how much this man means to me. for me he represents a hero. what he gave to this world some will never know but to those of us he touched (even though his last film was made in 1967) we give thanks. he was a master of the screen in the beautiful age of silent film. he was able to express tragedy and humor without a syllable. the world will probably never see an artist of his caliber again. he made famous the character of 'the tramp' he once said that this fellow was:
a tramp, a gentleman, a poet, a dreamer a lonely fellow always hopeful of romance and adventure. he would have you believe he was a scientist, a musician, a duke a polo player.however, he is not above robbing a baby of its candy and of course if the occasion warrants it he will kick a lady in the rear, but only in extreme anger.
but i'm sure she would have deserved it. watching the oscars tonight, i thought i would share with you mr. chaplin's honorary oscar acceptance speech. click on his photo for the link.
